Level 5/7 Tutor

I first trained as a primary teacher and specialised in English.  In my first year of teaching I became particularly interested in the children who found school more difficult, whether that be coming into school in the first place or the work itself.  In the time that I was at my first school, the SENDCo left and the school asked if I would like the position of SENDCo and to complete the National Award for SEN coordination, which I did.

This award is the first year of a masters level course and therefore I stayed on and completed my second year which was about social, emotional, behavioural difficulties and my third year dissertation.

After having my children, I ended up working at several schools at the same time, as their SENDCo as well as supporting a new SENDCo in their role.

On the day of my masters graduation I discovered that one of my colleagues was staying on to do the Level 7 assessing and specialist teaching dyslexia course and as dyslexia was already an interest to me, I decided to join her.

During this training I became a SENDCo and specialist dyslexia teacher in a private school and after a while at this school I decided to leave and set up my own business in dyslexia assessment and specialist teaching.  This has been running since the beginning of 2022, and I still find every young person a privilege to work with and it’s an extremely rewarding career.

In my spare time I love visiting the theatre (especially to see musicals), crafting and spending time with my two children and husband.  We have just spent two years volunteer puppy raising for Guide Dogs and our most recent Guide Dog puppy (pictured with me) has just left us to go into official training.

I started working with Dyslexia Herts this academic year and have very much enjoyed supporting the students on the Level 5 course.
